For 42 states, the 5-inch pot will be carefully wrapped at the base to prevent moisture leakage during transit and wrapped in a protective paper tube to protect the plant. All shipping boxes will be filled with packing material to prevent movement during shipment, so your roses arrive looking their best. For the 8 western states that require us to bare root the plant before shipping, the roses will be similarly packaged, apart from no pot, and the soil removed, then the root ball wrapped in wetted sphagnum moss.

Yes! If it’s a special gift, let us know and we can send a custom handwritten note when the shipment is boxed. We also have gift certificates available, which can be sent to the gift receiver. We will snail mail it to them directly. Send us a note at info@hummingbirdroses.net with the details, and we are happy to accommodate your gift needs.

These roses are still toddlers and need to be treated as such. Detailed instructions will accompany each shipment, inside the box. In short: unpack immediately, give them a drink of water, and place them into dappled shade for a day or so. We ask then that you pot them up in a one-gallon pot, with good quality potting soil, and grow them on for 2-3 months, before planting into the garden. This will ensure they have a robust root system and are garden ready.

We start shipping in late May, after the roses have time to come out of winter dormancy and start putting on growth again. We are unable to ship prior to this timeframe, due to Michigan’s climate. Shipping will continue until late September or early October for the season.
-
No. Availability will be added to the website when they are ready to go, as each rose is hand grown and released in batches, once they reach the size where we will sell and ship them.
-
We will ship either UPS or USPS, depending on region and rate efficiency. The roses will be carefully packed to ensure safe arrival.

Due to the agricultural guidelines, we must abide by to ship to the western states (CA, OR, WA, ID, NV, MT, UT, WY) these roses must be shipped bare root, and free of all soil. Due to the extra shipping preparation of these roses, to protect them so they make it across the country, a small per-rose surcharge will apply to these orders.
-
Yes, we hold a certificate of compliance from The Michigan Department of Agriculture, allowing Hummingbird Roses to send bare root plants to the western states.

Shipping varies based on location and weather conditions. Once your shipping label has been prepared, you’ll receive an email with your tracking number so you can prepare for the delivery once it’s scheduled.

Yes. This is an Own Root plant that was propagated the previous season. If planted upon arrival as instructed, they should take off and thrive for you.
-
I always recommend fish emulsion, an all-organic fertilizer that promotes root development. This is what they are fed once they come out of dormancy from the winter. I feed the potted roses each week, every 7 to 10 days, in between waterings.
Warranty
-
Yes. We offer a 60-day warranty from delivery at Hummingbird Roses. If the rose is cared for upon arrival as instructed, by potting up and growing on, before planting directly in the garden.
Adequate sunlight and watering need to be provided, as well as using good quality potting soil.
As we propagate and care for our roses, we do everything we can to ensure the rose is healthy and thriving, so it does well once it gets to you.
Should a rose fail during this time, please contact us at warranty@hummingbirdroses.net with a photo of the potted rose, and your order details. Should we need to honor the warranty, a replacement will be sent, if we have another of the same one available, or a refund will be issued for the cost of the rose to the credit card you made the purchase with.

Loss from neglect, pests, extreme weather, rabbit and deer damage, or planting directly in the garden upon delivery, versus potting up and growing on as recommended.
